A Day You Won't Forget (demo)
Long before I wrote the intense-action thriller novel of the same title A Day You Won’t Forget, I had this song in my notes and in my mind I knew exactly how it should sound like. I wanted the eery chordal vibe underneath the super-romantic lyrics and melody.
In my head, the clash between dissonant chords and counter-melody and the lyrical structure makes this song memorable. I imagined it as if it was a love scene with the Jaws theme song playing in the background: it doesn’t match right, it creates tension and uneasiness.
And now, more than 20 years after I wrote this song, I still love it and am still getting excited by it.
I’ll make this a day you won’t forget A touch, a smile, zero regrets I’ll chase the sadness from your face And leave some hope in its place I’ll make you a meal that feels like home Each bite will say you’re not alone I’ll turn this water into wine At the very least, I’ll give it a try
I’ll make this a day you won’t forget Your skin is hot, your hair still wet I’ll shut the curtains, dim the light Pretend we’re saints just for tonight I’ll take you places high and near And hold you tight and kiss your ear You’ll bite your lip, I’ll grab your hand We’ll fuck like strangers who just met
I’ll brush the blame off from your skin Won’t ask you who, won’t ask you when I’ll give you more than you can get I’ll make this a day you won’t forget
Worth noting
This song is also included in my 128: Songbook.
