1998 — Elijah was a real person, albeit with a different name. I met him in 1997, while I was volunteering in a mental institution as a part of my psychotherapy training. I’ve had many conversations with Elijah throughout those 3 months, and until this day I have no idea if he was really mentally ill or just faking it to avoid prison time.
